Flannel Over the Face

worn n’ stringy flannel cloaks my
bite from sleeping baby’s
tender skin,

i deflect a whiplash assault
of wicked gale funneling up
the napalm from within,

scarf conceals deepest
fang slits left by night’s
ghastlier things,

calculated assault on the ears
from night sirens n’
their sleepless
violins.
