Heart’s False Starts

i was surface smart, i knew all indisputable
facts n’ i held them to my heart
like a day’s fresh start,

nailed a golden star to the stake
still stickin’ out the clearing
in shell of spooned out

and i’ve rhymed heart so many
times i don’t know a true
love’s end from its
false start,

and if i don’t end this tune soon,
i’ll run out of letters before
last stroke of heaven’s
