A Boondocks Moon

it’s just me in the boonies
hidin’ out with mother
moon again..

but it’s like we’re
strangers
.

and she’s driftin’ further now
as clock hands signal
danger

i venture further back into the sticks
grown tired of spotting my
reflection in every
pane of glass
..

while breathin’
city’s ash,

still pickin’ out shards of
last mirror i growled at
from white meat
of my ass,

watching as moon’s grin fades
to glow, i step back to let
crippled shadows
pass..

and light’s too dim now for
this calm a peace
to last.
