some loves bake
deep and
slow,
others spark right
off the tips of
lighters,
shame my feathers don’t
catch fire like they
used to,
not sure they’ll keep me
thawed through the
first month of
winter,
guess we’ll have to
cuddle closer,

more like the slices in
your toaster.
