a boy in the well
holds his wish
where it
fell..
then hoists it up
to low light
to fend
off
thieves of
night,
and crickets croak long
’til dawn’s hot
egg cracks,
to wake the boy
resting,
now..
free from
attack,
boy rouses in yawns
to climb out of
his well,
and..
boy leaves his
wish where
it fell.
