demands competing
for one’s focus,

worn as shrinking
ring around
the skull,

hands sway frantic
just above the
surface..

of a sea you’re
required to
swim..

for rescue, over
and over
until..

dragged under
again..

with no real tip
for selfless
service.

..though it grows as that nagging glow within us.

2020-09-06 – Mad the Dog

stealth pursuits
in greased
alleys,

hide your eyes,
behind the night,
behind brights
of screens,

behind words,
stripped of
light,

in stealth pursuits
thru shadow
alleys,

i’m the stray dog
behaving
madly.

out purring for
a cat fight

..and front paw’s bleedin’ badly.

keys carve
another counter

melting metals
down to grains
in my palm,

i can’t drive
tonight,

my car’s still groaning,
he’s seen too much
on death’s road
today,

i’ll hide my shame
in corners of
cool eyes,
