buildings cast
man sized shadows
only passing
through,
city holds its
ashen
hue.
abstract
dreams
of ice cream
on a snow
day,
dripping down
the cone,
with flashbacks to
summer
sun
melting on my
tongue.
on the tip of
dire news
i watched
branches bend
as if accommodating
fate’s harsh
winds.
yes, i’m sweet
but messy,
you knew it when
you met
me..
not that truth
makes it
easy.
he burns the
leaves,
inhales the
steam,
takes his
bath
but can’t
relax
into sleep.
like pink ribbons tied
on branches
you lend color to
the natural,
hot and
flush,
your accents
make me
blush
beyond the
flesh.
tension reached
its break
with the birth of
an embrace
that blazed through
every secret
that kept us at
arm’s length.
why not meet me
up a tree?
and let’s see if we
can sleep,
while night wind
nips our
limbs
the stars
dim.
with autumn but
a memory
on winter’s
voice
i hear you in
its rasp,
and still feel you
in its frigid
grasp
as heartbeats
slow,
with springtime but
a reverie
i draw you from
from our
past,
to free those shivering
leaves from
heaps of
snow.
at rest within
this breath–
i’ll exhale
without regret,
i saw the glimpse
and dreamt
it in
with hope you’d
found it
too.
