woke to silver
light on
walls
in a bout of
restless
legs,
shapes rise and fade
as cars escape
from their own
sleepless
fates.
insomnia
he burns the
leaves,
inhales the
steam,
takes his
bath
but can’t
relax
into sleep.
comfort in cool
sheets
on a solitary
eve,
praying out the
window,
watching headlights on
highway
blur..
entrances me
to sleep.
the sky has not
woken
yet i’m up for
its birth-
forgoing sound
rest,
on the dawn of
new hope,
i’m suspicious
at best.
sleeping
one eye pried,
managed to
drop
us..
though i
tried
to hold stronger than
you needed,
more stone faced
than you
desired
and now i’m chasing
memories
down
with a mind
on fire.
hands in the garden
