than i’d been

and when our lips
met i felt a
longing
stronger than my
fear of
more.
romance

like only you

not need the same

though i’m pleased

too.
you tamed the chaos
behind my
pupils
with mere mention
of a future
that wouldn’t present
in jagged
shards
for me to piece
together
alone.
hoped i could
outkiss
you
mistaking every
chance for
a test,
while i should have
yielded to the
wet
of passion on
my lips.
the piano sounds of
trickling
water
to tickled senses
held under
spell like
magic
awakens
soul submerged.
heartbeat against
eardrum
close to combustion
from timely
tension
of strains felt
that need no mention.
flannel hugs and
hot cocoa..
and we both
know
it’s you that fills
my cup,
lips meet
chalked with sugar..
another comfort
i won’t
give
up.
in silence i
lost you
to a desire
for distraction,
then after dancing ’round
buffers for what
seemed like
forever
we eased into the
absence of
words,
that first touch
meant more
to us
than any sea
of words
rippling about
our heads,
we two-
barely afloat
above the
surface.
on breathless
night–
we set flame to our
final page
and buried a heavy
chapter..
like relic not worth
exhuming in
this life,
then sought out
a fresh
star
to guide us with hope
to daylight.
