avoiding debates
i once started
to avoid being seen
as less smart,
to avoid being judged
at a table
sorely lacking
in heart.
shadow play
wandered far
and wide
until all looked
foreign,
then sat and waited
for something
uncommon..
to
happen–
nestled into
stump of
tree,
when passer by
paused
to observe
me.
resting on tin
roof,
transfixed by
perfect
view
of
all my eyes
reach,
scanning skyline
for distant
beach,
to wade through
in mind,
knee deep in
figment
tides,
till cool enough
to head
inside.
i find it hard
to focus
through your lip
movements,
just being
honest,
could watch you
speak for
hours
and
catch enough
in your
tone
to
affirm you’re
not alone.
same lost walk
through
park
new marvels tug
at sleeve
to be
believed,
too busy peering
down, trying
not to
trip
over crack
in familiar ground..
to glance about
and see,
there’s far more to
perceive
than
draggin’ feet.
beyond the
veil,
i see you
true,
though you’d
prefer i
not..
as pale as you once
thought–
with eyes
so boundless blue.
as road forks
’round the
bend,
can’t see the
clearest way ahead,
though wheel turns all
the same,
no bad drivers left
to blame.
heavy
on theatrics,
more than a touch
dramatic..
while in
make
up,
crowd gasps as
he steps
out
from behind dark
drapes,
in nothing but his
top hat and
a cape.
caught a
spark,
boxed it up in
wooden
heart–
saved for warmth
starved
night,
when deeply
in want
of
your crackling
bright.
a romance, not for
the faint of
heart–
but yielding beyond
what i’d
wish-
had i taken
cues
from those who
no longer
kiss.
hands in the garden
