with autumn but
a memory
on winter’s
voice
i hear you in
its rasp,
and still feel you
in its frigid
grasp
as heartbeats
slow,
with springtime but
a reverie
i draw you from
from our
past,
to free those shivering
leaves from
heaps of
snow.

yes, take my
mind
if you clear the
scars
from former
wars,
i’d give my
life
were you to
guide
me
to your
hidden door.
if love is
water
then wave’s a
kiss,
full and bracing upon
parched
lips.
you drop bread
crumbs as
love,
as i fade to my
own heart
and each time, i chase
your gracious
trail
right back to where
we start.
you smiled
a bit,
and i hid..
like a
kid,
for you had
melted years within
and found me home
again.
it was humanly
natural
and destined
to be
the truth that
broke our
quiet
as tears restored
the peace.
in facing my
worst
it cast light
on your
best,
and i basked
in that
glow
more than i’d
let you
know.
you returned
brighter
to
blind,
so i didn’t open
my eyes
yet
realized.
braced to your
wing,
wind whipping
skin–
a trust
sheltered within.
visible from
shore
are shadows
midst the waves,
as moonlight
holds vigil
over underwater
graves.
